MGR is back: Puratchi Thalaivar

One of the most popular movie stars Tamilnadu has ever seen MGR is making a comeback to films. It would be an animation flick from the stables of Mayabimbham Media (P) Ltd who had earlier made the 3D film ‘V4′.

The 3D film starring MGR has been titled ‘Puratchi Thalaivan’. The producers of the film have said that MGR had last performed in the film ‘Maduraiyai Meeta Sundara Pandiyan’ and proudly proclaim that they are bringing him back to the silver screen after all these years.

‘Puratchi Thalaivan’ would be directed by Venky Baboo and produced by Sridevi Rao. A team of 3D animators would indulge themselves in the job of recreating the magic of MGR on screen.

One wonders who the animated heroine of the film would be. Would it be Saroja Devi or Jayalalitha. Who knows….the think tank behind MGR might prefer newer heroines like Trisha, Shriya or Nayantara.

‘Poo’ gets a “U” Certificate

‘Poo’ directed by Sasi and produced by Moser Baer in association with Nesagee Cinemas will be releasing on the 28th of November. The Censor Board of Film Certification has cleared the film with the tag U (for Universal audiences).

The film shot in a rustic background stars Srikanth and Parvathy. Based on the short story ‘Veyyilodu Poi’, the film is expected to contain a heart warming story. Sasi who has churned out ‘Sollamale’, Rojakootam’ and ‘Dishyum’ earlier, has a penchant for realistic human emotions.

Poo’s music album by S. S. Kumaran has already become popular with its mellifluous tunes oozing with the ‘native feel’.

‘Poo’ sure has all the makings of a healthy entertainer with abundance of realism packed in it. Something audiences would love.

Aegan Audio from October 9th!

As per the official statements from Ayngaran International, audio of Ajith starrer Aegan will be launched on October 9th. Yuvan Shankar Raja has composed the music for this much-awaited film. This is the third Ajith starrer that this talented music director is composing music for; earlier he composed the music of Dheena and Billa. All the songs of Aegan are good and some of them have the popular hip-hop touch. There is no doubt that Aegan’s jazzy music will be a huge success.

Aegan, a remake of Bollywood blockbuster Main Hoon Na (Shahrukh Khan), is directed by choreographer-actor Raju Sundaram. In 2007, Billa released and added a huge number of cinemagoers to Ajith’s already-vast fan base. Now, it is the turn of Aegan.

Devayani to Direct Nakul

After the resounding success of Nakul with the film ‘Kathalil Vizhunden’, producers are forming a beeline to cast the young hero in their films. One among the producers is Devayani, sister of Nakul. It is known that Devayani who fell in love with director Rajakumaran and married him much against the wishes of her parents was disowned by them. However, her brother Nakul was in constant touch with the couple visiting them often.

Nakul’s recognition as an actor to reckon with has pleased Devayani and her husband immensely. Devayani has gone on to announce that she would venture to make a film that will star her kid brother and directed by her husband. However information as to when the project would start is not clear.

Thanks to the aggressive promotion by Sun Network and the racy number ‘Naaku Mukka’, the film was successful in garnering wide publicity that translated itself to expectations. The film is doing very well
at the box office.

Nakul has become a welcome addition to the list of numerous young heroes who have made their foray into Tamil films recently.

Mani Ratnam in Trouble!

Seems like Mani Ratnam has zeroed in on a title for his next venture. According to inside sources close to the ace director, the title Asogavanam is finalized for the Tamil version while the Hindi version
would continue to be called Ravan. However, it also looks like Mani would not have it easy to register the title with the film chamber. We hear

wind of the fact that the title Asogavanam is already registered in the film chambers by a popular director who has plans to cast his son in an upcoming venture with the same title. More details in this
regard are awaited, however. The latest addition to the epic-inspired tale of Mani would be Vishnu Vardhan’s brother, Krishna, who played the lead in the recent release Alibaba.

Poornam Viswanathan Passed Away

The actor who came to be identified a lot for playing ‘good man’ roles for decades Poornam Viswanathan passed away at the Apollo Hospitals in Chennai on the 1st of October. According to reports the actor was ill for quite some time and the end came at about 3:30 pm.

A news reader for All India Radio from the year 1945, Poornam Viswanathan entered the film industry and immediately was noticed for unique way of speech. Moreover many filmmakers cast him in roles that needed a lot of sympathy. Some of the evergreen roles he has performed in include the performance of a doctor in the film ‘Thillu Mullu’. His portrayal of a desperate companion to Kamal Haasan in the quest
to rescue his daughter in the film ‘Mahanadhi’ will be remembered for a long time to come.

A role that brought out his talents in a big way was in the film ‘Aasai’. Caught between a menacing son-in-law who had murdered his daughter and a protective instinct towards his second daughter, Poornam Viswanathan had etched out a performance with loads of realism in it.

Poornam Viswanathan has also been part of several films that include Anjali, Puthu Puthu Arthangal, Keladi Kanmani, Aasai, Varumayin Niram Sivappu, Moondram Pirai and Aann Paavam. The actor’s unique way of speaking has been immortalized by scores of mimics over the years.
